THE DAY earlier than Sonya Massey, a 36-year-old black girl in Springfield, Illinois, was killed by a police officer, her mom phoned 911. “The psychological folks informed me to name 911,” she informed the dispatcher, reporting that her daughter was having a breakdown. “She thinks all people’s after her,” she defined, including: “Please don’t ship no combative policemen which might be prejudiced, please…They’re scary.” The subsequent day, Ms Massey referred to as 911 herself to report that she was fearful of intruders. Her mom’s fears have been proved to be solely based. Inside minutes of their arrival, one of many two responding officers, Sean Grayson, was threatening to “shoot her within the fucking face” until she dropped a pot of boiling water she was transferring off the range. Then he did precisely that.
