Przekrój, an iconic Polish magazine, relaunches in America

On June twenty first guests to Veterans Park in Milwaukee caught an uncommon spectacle. Within the late-afternoon solar, a hot-air balloon within the form of a large child was crammed up, as a choir sang. The stunt was to advertise the launch of the primary ever English-language version of Przekrój (Cross-section), a Polish cultural journal that was influential within the cold-war period. The child, based on Maria Kozak, the journal’s Polish-American editor-at-large, was meant to symbolise rebirth: “Infants are freed from social biases. They’ve this utterly limitless potential.”

And so, she hopes, does her journal. The brand new version of Przekrój can be a check of whether or not Polish-People, as soon as a robust voting bloc within the Midwest, nonetheless maintain collectively as a diaspora.
