At the least 28 individuals have been killed in a coal mine explosion in northern Turkey that left dozens of employees trapped, the nation’s well being minister said on Saturday.

The explosion occurred on Friday within the coastal province of Bartin. The inside minister, Suleyman Soylu, later mentioned that there had been 110 individuals within the mine on the time, and that 49 of them had been unable to flee and remained trapped, The Associated Press reported.

Well being Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter early Saturday morning that 11 individuals had been rescued and have been being handled — 5 in Bartin and 6 in Istanbul.

It is a growing story.
